Yes, It’s Easy To Build Your Own Condenser Microphone

Build condenser microphoneWe’re in a golden age of audio gear kits, with more manufacturers than ever offering DIY kits to build high-quality gear. Need a preamp, EQ or compressor? If you can wield a soldering iron, there are many kits to choose from. Need a condenser or ribbon microphone? There are multiple kits available there as well.

Audio Builders Workshop has been championing DIY gear with its seminars for quite a while, and now it offers a YouTube channel showing the unboxing of DIY kits and tools from companies like Collective Cases, DIY.RE, Microphone-Parts, JLM Audio, Hairball, Expat Audio, Bumblebee DIY Pro Audio, Austin Microphones, Audibility Recording, GKL gKit Baby / ORA, Vintage Microphone PCB Kit, Sparkos Lab, Geistnote and many more!

Here’s an example of one of the videos, with this one looking at the unboxing of the S-25 from Microphone-parts.com.

Keep in mind that although you may be building something that will give you a relatively high-quality result, you’re not getting the precision and quality control like with a piece of gear from a manufacturer. Or as they used to say (haven’t heard the phrase in a long time), “your mileage may vary” with your build.

That being said, if you want to save some money and aren’t afraid of a little work, then this is a great place to start.
