Steve Albini has produced albums for Nirvana, The Pixies, PJ Harvey, and Iggy Pop, among others, and he was a featured interview in my Recording Engineer’s Handbook.
In the following video he discusses the ins and outs of how to produce an album, and I have to say, he’s a man after my own heart. He likes and expects to do things fast in the studio and get to the point as soon as possible, which I love. Why stay in the studio more than you have to?
In this video Steve also gives a tour around his Electrical Audio studio, and shows some pretty neat drawings of its acoustic design. I don’t think there’s any new earth-shattering advice here, given his in-your-face outlook on the music industry, but it’s a good watch anyway.
