New Music Gear Monday: AcoustiTools Live Sound AR Analysis App

Live sound engineers have struggled with the variance in venues ever since the beginning of the discipline. Whether a sports arena, a roadhouse stage, or a house of worship, every space presents its own unique challenges when it comes to sound engineering and speaker placement. And while there are some great analysis tools available, none have advanced enough to use the latest Augmented Reality technology to speed up the process of tuning a room – except for AcoustiTools.

Acoustic Mastermind’s AcoustiTools app features an innovative design that simultaneously displays four active modules – the breakthrough AR Spatial Module that includes Volume Variance and Delay Calc, an extensive dB meter, a precise RTA and a Diagnostic Parametric Equalizer (PEQ) . The display allows you to view everything you need at a glance and quickly select a module to interact with.

Probably most unique is the AR Spatial module, which uses augmented reality (AR) to tag locations and calculate the volume levels for each placed tag. Each tag displays essential information that allow you to then map the volume variances between different places in the venue in order to ensure even volume levels throughout. The Delay Timing feature determines the delay timing between a tagged and labeled front speaker and delay stack. The displayed results give you the information needed to quickly sync your audio.

The AcoustiTools dB Meter module measures the decibel levels with features like max-peak or max-average, fast or slow time weightings, average sound level over 1-second, 1-minute, or 5-minutes, and spectral weightings A, B, C, and Flat.

The built-in RTA operates with the Diagnostic PEQ (parametric equalizer) module to show recommended corrective EQ settings to implement for your audio system. The module shows the values for each setting of the PEQ, including the center frequency, the Q, and the amplitude.

The Acoustic Masterminds AcoustiTools app is for iOS devices only, including iPhones 6s onward, 5th and 6th generation iPads, and all iPad Pros. The basic app is just $17.99 and available in the Apple App Store, while the Diagnostic PEQ module is an in-app purchase available for an additional $14.99.
