Producing Wall-Of-Sound Vocals

Mixers are frequently presented with 2 dilemmas when it comes to background vocals – make just a few tracks sound like a lot more, and how to deal with a huge number of tracks. In this video, musician/producer Devin Townsend explains how he turns a few of his vocals into a massive wall of sound, and then how he deals with all the tracks later.

You’ll want to watch the video, but what Devin shows is his panning, de-essing, compression, delay and reverb. The delay settings are interesting in that he’s using a stereo delay with 300 and 500ms times with a massive amount of feedback. I’ll have to try this one myself.

This is a Waves sponsored video, so all of the plugins are Waves-related.
