The Sound Of The Internet

In the past I’ve posted about audio creation from natural sources other than traditional instruments, like space and the weather. Now we have the sound of the Internet, which is just as unusual and interesting as you’d think.

Here’s something from Russian multimedia artist Dmitry Morosov, aka ::vtol::, who’s created an interactive sound installation that consists of four Wi-Fi routers connected to four LTE modems. The piece is called “Mayak” and it uses the data to trigger some synthesizers.

Keep in mind that all four routers are open Wi-Fi spots so that the synthesizers are being triggered by people accessing and using the internet with their own devices.

You can’t exactly call it music, but it is interesting, at least for a bit. I don’t know if I could listen to it all day though. Check it out below.
