Here’s What An 80 Inch Gong Sounds Like
A gong is a wonderful percussion instruments with a lineage that goes back centuries in most countries of Asia. It’s a member of the bell family, made from bronze or brass alloy, and has a wonderful unmistakingly unique sound.
What you might not know is that there is a such a thing as a “Gong Master,” meaning an expert in the history, science and philosophy behind playing the instrument.
In this video, Gong Master Sven plays a massive 80″ symphonic gong played at the Paiste factory. Paiste is the largest Western manufacturer of gongs, which are all made in their factory in Germany.
This is very cool. It doesn’t sound the way you think it will.
