New Music Gear Monday: ADPTR Audio Metric AB Mix Comparison Plugin

ADPTR Audio Metric AB on Bobby Owsinski's Production BlogMatching the sound of a mix has never been easy, yet it’s essential in learning the craft, or for pros, getting closer to a sound that the artist likes. In the past it’s all been done by matching by ear and as fruitful as that can be, it does take time. Recently there’s been a number of A/B plugins that have come to market that have made the process easier, but ADPTR Audio’s new Metric AB takes the genre a step further with the inclusion of some much requested features.

The Metric AB plugin enables you to compare your mix to any reference mix with a simple click of the A/B button. All you need to do is insert it on your master buss channel after all your processing, then switch between your actual mix and songs from a CD, iTunes, or a file that you really like. The type of file doesn’t matter as Metric AB will play back WAV, MP3, AIFF and FLAC files.

Up to 16 reference tracks can be loaded by simple drag and drop, and they can then be adjusted as needed with the instant volume matching feature, cue and loop functions and various monitoring modes.

What’s even better is that Metric AB also features a number of visual analysis modes that can be really helpful in duplicating a mix’s sound. You get feedback as to what a mix looks like thanks to the built in spectrum analyzer, stereo correlation and stereo imaging tools, as well as industry compliant LUFS loudness and dynamics metering.

Metric AB from ADPTR Audio sells for $199 but carries an introduction special of only $129 with the code “ADPTR-AB-129-INTRO.” It’s available in all plugin formats for both Mac OS X and Windows 7 through 10 (Pro Tools 11 or higher, or most VST/VST3/AU-compatible hosts running on a supported operating system).
