Thank You, Ed Cherney

I can’t tell you how sad I am to hear the news that Ed Cherney has passed. Not only was he a super engineer, but he was an even better person who cared deeply about others and always wanted the best for everyone.

Ed engineered an album that I produced for SNEW a few years ago and we had so much fun during the course of the project. Fun is the operative word here, as he kept us all laughing almost all the time. How can you not make great music in an environment like that? And the sounds were spectacular, as always.

I didn’t interface with him much after that project except for the occasional phone call and bumping into him at trade shows. Numerous times recently I thought of calling just to say Hi, but something always seems to have gotten in the way. I’m sorry that I didn’t now, which is a lesson that you should always act on those feelings when you have them. You might not get another chance.

Ed, I know that you’re engineering a great album and keeping everyone smiling wherever you are now. May you have a great next journey, my friend!

Here are some words of wisdom from Ed that appeared as an add-on to my Music Producers Handbook.
