Geoff Emerick On Recording The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper

Geoff EmerickGeoff Emerick is one of the 5 engineers to work with The Beatles and is probably the one most identified with the group. Other than his great book (Here There And Everywhere: My Life Recording The Beatles), you don’t hear him speaking very much about the experience. He goes into great detail in this recent interview for ABC Australia though, where he talks a lot about recording the landmark Sgt Pepper album.

There’s a lot of info here that I don’t think I’ve ever heard before (including how the name of the album came about, and how it was originally supposed to be a concept album),and I’m so glad it’s been preserved for posterity.

If you have any interest in the history of The Beatles and recording techniques of the past, you don’t want to miss this.
