New Music Gear Monday: Accusonus ERA Audio Clean-Up Assistant
We all have those tracks that require cleanup to make useable. Excessive noise, too much room, too many S’s, lots of breaths – the list goes on. Most post pros will use one or more of the iZotope RX tools for cleanup, but that can be expensive and there’s a learning curve that many music engineers don’t have time to deal with. There is an easier solution though, and that’s the Accusonus ERA Audio Clean-Up Assistant plugin.
It’s A Bundle
ERA Audio Clean-Up Assistant is actually a bundle of simple one-knob tools, each with a dedicated audio repair function. The Standard Bundle contains 11 tools that include Noise Remover, Reverb Remover, Mouth De-Clicker, De-Breath, Voice Auto-EQ, Voice Leveler, Voice Deepener, De-Esser, Plosive Remover, De-Clipper, and Audio Clean-Up Assistant.
Almost all of the individual tools have a single Processing control in the center surrounded by an Output control on the left and a level meter on the right. At the top left there’s an On/Off selector and an A/B selector on the top right. On the bottom is a simple control (it varies with the tool) to let you zero in on the processing better, combined with a waveform display in some cases.
It’s Smart Too
While you can call up each tool as an individual plugin, the Audio Clean-Up Assistant analyzes the audio and then presents the needed tools for the task in one place so you don’t have to juggle between windows. It also allows you to build and save your favorite repair chains for speed and consistency, but you can also just use the built-in presets for rapid audio editing.
The Pro Bundle adds four more tools – Noise Remover Pro, Reverb Remover Pro, De-Esser Pro and Room Tone Match. The All Access includes everything from the other bundles plus Voice Changer, SFX Cellar Premium sound effects, and Music Cellar background music. Obviously, these two bundles are aimed more towards post than music.
ERA Audio Clean-Up Assistant bundles are subscription only. The Standard Bundle goes for $9.99 per month, the Pro Bundle for $19.99 per month, and the All Access Suite for $24.99 per month if billed on an annual basis. If you’d rather pay monthly, it will cost about double. Yes, there’s a free trial, it’s available on Mac and PC, and it also works on some popular video editors as well like Premier Pro and DaVinci Resolve.
